Monkey House is situated within the elevated landscape of Las Huacas, Nosara. characterized by ascending gradients and panoramic ocean views. In search of the best sunset, the existing house is supported by a structure 7 meters from the ground. Left as a laundry area under the deck, the concrete core of the hexagonal wood structural system supports the whole house above the canopy.
The main house´s deck is supported by 9 columns, leaving a height of 7 meters from the ground. While the house was being renovated, the owner realized the potential of the space below the deck. an open area with concrete columns, ocean views and enough space available to add a main bedroom to the ongoing renovation. Designing from the inside out each space leads to an ocean view. The project included the addition of a new master bedroom, master bathroom, walk-in closet, terrace, and a versatile room designed to serve as both a bunk bedroom and an office.
The available space under the deck was constrained and divided. Knowing how fragmented the space was, creating transitions between space was the challenge. From the main entrance the new staircase leads us to the lobby on the underground level. The lobby was an open space dedicated to the laundry area, now a middle point to the exit for the pool area, laundry, new main bedroom and bunk room.
The main bedroom is designed to gradually find the ocean view. The main door leads us to a transitional space between the bedroom area , walking closet and main bathroom.
