Escondida is located in Guiones Norte, Nosara, near one of the main beach access points. The property borders a protected area at the rear, managed by the Nosara Civic Association. Being so close to the beach, sunsets play a vital role, making the western orientation a key source of natural light. The design moves away from the western boundary to maximize illumination and ventilation, taking full advantage of the ocean breezes.
Seeking tranquility and distance from the main road, this project extends toward the protected area, using local vegetation to create a seamless continuation of the natural refuge into the heart of the residence. By preserving as many existing trees as possible, the design minimizes its impact on the environment, creating a "refuge within a refuge."
Casa Escondida features a two-story design. The main façade is set back from the street, hidden among gardens and a ventilated concrete block façade. Behind this façade lies the true essence of the project. The main entrance, on the eastern side of the lot, is covered by a wooden pergola and leads toward the center of the property. Along the way, three existing trees greet visitors, guiding them to the surfboard storage area, an external shower, and the main door.
The entryway opens into a foyer with an internal garden, surrounded by hallways that connect to bedrooms and the social area on the ground floor. A staircase with double-height ceilings, open to the internal garden, leads to the primary bedroom on the second floor. Oriented to capture natural light from the west, the internal garden plays a significant role in illuminating the hallways and social areas. Located at the heart of the house and open to the surrounding refuge, the internal garden transforms into a lush, jungle-like centerpiece.
